What is it? Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is an environmentally sound approach to pest control. IPM combines many methods, including modifying and managing the landscape to discourage pests and deprive them of food and shelter. This is called Sanitation. IPM also uses screens, nets, and barriers to keep pests out. This is called Exclusion.
Trapping pests, both insects and nuisance wildlife is also used, as well as selective pruning of plans and trees. Pesticides are used when a quick knockdown of an infestation is needed or when nonchemical controls are ineffective.
Pesticides are used in combination with Sanitation and Exclusion. Great care is taken to choose the least toxic, most effective pesticide to control the pest and protect the environment, your family and your pets. Integrated Pest Management is intended to be a long term, comprehensive approach to pest management without harming you or the environment.
